SécuriCAB is an automated safety call service designed for seniors, to help ensure their well-being from the comfort of their own home.
This bilingual service is offered free of charge to seniors who wish to subscribe and comes with no obligation on your part. Safety calls are made seven days a week. The service can be provided long-term or temporarily, such as during a recovery period.
Feel free to contact the Centre d’action bénévole Rivières-des-Prairies for more information!
How it works
Here’s how the automated safety call service works in practice:
At the day and time agreed upon with the subscriber, the SécuriCAB web platform makes a first automated call asking the subscriber to press 1 if everything is fine. If the person is not feeling well, they are instructed to hang up immediately. If the subscriber answers and presses 1, the process ends. However, if they do not answer or hang up…
The system will place a second safety call five minutes later, repeating the same automated message and instructions. If the subscriber answers and presses 1, the process ends. However, if they do not answer or hang up…
A third call will be made through the platform, following the same process as the previous messages, five minutes after the second attempt. If the subscriber answers and presses 1, the process ends. However, if they do not answer or hang up…
An alert is generated by SécuriCAB and sent to the coordinator at the Volunteer Action Centre. This person will then contact the first emergency contact listed in the subscriber’s file to verify the subscriber’s safety. The coordinator may ask this contact to visit the subscriber’s home to ensure their well-being. If the first contact is unavailable or unable to check in person, the coordinator will reach out to the second emergency contact listed. If that person is also unable to confirm the subscriber’s safety or visit the home, the coordinator will then contact the third emergency contact.
As soon as any of the emergency contacts confirms the subscriber is safe, they inform the Volunteer Action Centre, and the procedure ends.
However, if none of the three emergency contacts are aware of the subscriber’s situation or able to visit, the Volunteer Action Centre will contact local emergency services. They will then go to the subscriber’s home to carry out a welfare check and will report back to the Centre on the subscriber’s condition.
FAQ
Does SécuriCAB require a paid subscription?
Rest assured, the service is 100% free and will remain so.
I’m usually not at home on certain days of the week. How can I let SécuriCAB know?
The service allows you to select the days you wish to receive calls. You can also change the time slots at any time.
Can I use the service on a temporary basis?
Absolutely. Whether you have had an accident, undergone a medical procedure, or are experiencing any health issue affecting your mobility and independence, you can use SécuriCAB for the duration of your recovery, or for as long as you feel the service is important for your safety.
Who will call me?
A computerized female voice will answer when you pick up the phone. It will ask you to press 1. This confirms to the service that you are at home and safe. If you do not answer, SécuriCAB will try to call you two more times. If there is no response, or if you don’t press 1, one of your emergency contacts will be notified. If you have no contact listed on your file, the Volunteer Action Centre in your area will be alerted. In more urgent cases, the police will be contacted.
What happens if I miss the call even though I’m at home and safe?
Don’t worry, the service will try to call you two more times.
I’m asked to choose emergency contacts. Who can I select from my circle?
An emergency contact can be a family member, a friend, a neighbor, etc., as long as they live near you and are able to travel if needed. The contacts you choose will be informed of their role. If you don’t have anyone suitable in your circle, the Volunteer Action Centre in your area will act as the emergency contact.
