FAQ

Do you have any questions? That's completely normal!

Whether you're looking for more information about our services, volunteering, or how the Center works, you've come to the right place. Here, we've gathered answers to the questions we're asked most frequently—with simplicity and good humor!

I want to volunteer, but this is my first experience. What should I do?

If you want to get involved as a volunteer, it is important to ask yourself a few questions to better target the activity that suits you:

  • How much time do you want to dedicate to volunteering?

  • Do you prefer a weekly or one-off activity?

  • Would you like to volunteer at home or within an organization?

  • Do you prefer to work alone or as part of a team of volunteers?

  • Do you have any special skills you would like to use?

  • What causes are close to your heart? (The environment, seniors' health, helping people in financial difficulty, etc.)

How can I become a volunteer?

To become a volunteer, simply fill out the recruitment form. The Rivière-des-Prairies CAB coordinator will then contact you to discuss your skills, interests, and needs. They will also provide you with a directory of volunteer activities in the Rivière-des-Prairies borough.

Who can volunteer at the Rivière-des-Prairies Volunteer Action Center?

Anyone willing to offer their time, skills, and energy to others can volunteer at the Rivière-des-Prairies Volunteer Action Center. There is no minimum age to volunteer; simply register by completing the recruitment form.

I don't have much free time, but I'd still like to volunteer. Is that possible?

Yes, it's perfectly possible to volunteer on an ad hoc basis. For example, you can get involved in events like Christmas tree decorations, family day, or various vaccination clinics. You can also participate in activities that require little time, like updating a website. Just find an activity that fits your schedule.

Can I stop volunteering at any time?

Yes, you can stop volunteering at any time. Volunteering is a voluntary and flexible activity. However, we ask that you notify the volunteer coordinator in advance of your departure or absence, if possible.

Is there a fee to volunteer?

No, there is no cost to volunteer. However, the CAB may cover some costs if the volunteer requires several kilometers of driving as part of their commitment.

Will I be entitled to training?

The CAB occasionally organizes training sessions for its volunteers. You will be notified of each training session as soon as it takes place.

What areas can I get involved in as a volunteer?

There are many volunteer opportunities. For example, you can serve breakfast to children, call seniors, be a driver, help organize events, join an environmental committee, or support community organizations. Simply find an area that interests you and let the CAB volunteer coordinator know.

Is it possible to receive compensation as a volunteer?

No, volunteering is, by definition, unpaid. A volunteer's "pay" is measured rather through the satisfaction of helping others and the smiles on the faces of those who receive it.
